The humble….”Nimbu Paani”

A refreshing combination of lime juice & mint in a drink is a part and parcel of every household in India and not without good reasons. With the increasing temperature the first thing that comes to my mind is always a refreshing glass of Nimbu Paani…. an Indian version of Lemonade…..something that most of us have grown up drinking since our childhood. 

It also takes me back to my college days where we use to have so many road side kancha bottle sellers   (Nimbu lemon Soda) in North Campus – Delhi University In the burning heat of Delhi in the months of May and June this one glass of simple nimbu paani would be the ultimate thirst quencher.

Nimbu paani is an instant energizer and thirst reliever that brings instant relief cooling out the heat and full of taste for one and all.  A freshly made chilled Nimbu paani is soothing to throat, chilling, refreshing, relaxing and healthy. It is one of the exceptional fresh coolant drinks that are preferred among the masses. It is also an amazing stress buster to many during sweltering summers.

Lemon is an inexpensive, easily available citrus fruit, popular for its culinary and medicinal uses. It is used to prepare a variety of food recipes such as lemon cakes, lemon chicken and beverages like lemonade and lemon-flavored drinks and is also used for garnishing.

Lemon water makes a healthy drink, especially when taken in the morning and a daily dose of the same can provide a number of health benefits.

It is said that lemon can help relieve many digestion problems when mixed with hot water. These include nausea, heartburn and parasites. Due to the digestive qualities of lemon juice, symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, bloating and belching are relieved. By drinking lemon juice regularly, the bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently. Lemon acts as a blood purifier and as a cleansing agent. The intake of lemon juice can cure constipation. It is even known to help relieve hiccups when consumed as a juice. Lemon juice acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping your liver produce more bile.

Lemon water works wonders for people having heart problem, owing to its high potassium content. It controls high blood pressure, dizziness, nausea as well as provides relaxation to mind and body. It also reduces mental stress and depression.

 

Have a toothache? Apply fresh lemon juice where it hurts. If you have bleeding gums, applying lemon juice can curb the bleeding and stop bad breath.

Suffer from indigestion? Mix a few drops of lemon juice with warm water and sip on it. This is useful for treating nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, bloating and burping.

A sore throat can be cured by gargling with lemon juice and water regularly.

Nimbu paani is high in potassium, which controls high blood pressure, dizziness, and nausea and reduces stress. It also cures respiratory disorders like breathing problems and asthma.
