My trials towards inner peace

One of the comments from my father still lingers with me years after his death….”Waqt ko to guzarna he hain, uose hass ke guzar loh ya ro ke,marzi tumhari hain”…..which translates into….”Time will pass, whether you pass the time laughing or by crying, the choice is yours”.

Not only has this had a deep impact on my thinking but having tried to imbibe this into my daily routine has helped change my outlook towards life and has helped me handle many a tough situation with a better frame of mind. It may sound philosophical but having tried to understand the simplicity behind this I have been able to adopt it with better ease.

I have also adopted an approach that irrespective of the nature of the work at hand I must enjoy it…..what is the point of doing the work if there is no enjoyment in it….and the brain is a very powerful organ….if ever I have perceived the task at hand to be a pain it definitely turns out to be one.

It happens to most of us when we happen to have someone in our lives, perhaps a boss or a family member where the energy exchanged in a conversation is totally negative. It’s a real shame when someone else’s poor communication skill, lack of consciousness or proneness to be emotionally triggered affect us till long after the incident has happened and tends to drag our spirits down.

I have learned to ignore such negativity and would rather focus my time and energies on more positive things….I know its easier said than done but each small step in the right direction will help you eliminate the negative energy and give to you a peace of mind. Lighting of an incense stick, listening to spiritual music, soaking in the early morning rays of the sun, doing pranayam  or a long walk in the park (plants give out lots of positive energy) are some of the ways I feel I have been able to bring a sense of a ‘feel good about myself’.

I have also observed that whenever you are laughing or smiling, something interesting happens. Not only does something happen on a chemical level to make you feel better, but it also somehow stops all stress and negativity from entering your psyche. A simple smile can make such a difference. You will quickly realize that peace finds its way much more easily to you when you smile.

It is not unthinkable or undoable…..try it out and it will really make a difference….the next time you spill the cup of tea onto the bed….smile…..coz screaming about it won’t help you either.
